I focus on the big trends first, particularly the big trends, and start finding potential entries where you can define your risk clearly, in both uptrends and downtrends: where can you enter with a clear and tight risk? At the beginning, just focus on the clear trends. Then gradually you can also look at the choppy markets, to get a feel for how a choppy market behaves. Are there any signs telling you it is a choppy market? Within the choppy markets, are there entries that you also see in a trending market that could fake you out? That gives you some market sense. I start with the clear trends because I'm a trend follower, a swing trader. But if you love trading reversions, then focus on the end of the trend, where the moves start getting extended.
